Should You Choose A Property in France With A Swimming Pool? - 12 April, 2011
One of the big decisions you will have to make when looking for a property for sale in France is whether or not your ideal property includes a swimming pool. There are many beautiful villas in France that have their own private swimming pool, and there are also many options for homes without a pool. If you are looking for a property for sale in France, is it best to go for a swimming pool or not?

First, it is important to consider your own personal needs for your property in France. Who will be using it? How often will you be staying there? Will you be renting it out? How long do you intend to own the property in France? These questions will tell you how practical a pool will be and whether or not it will be an advantage or disadvantage for you.

Here are some of the pros and cons of choosing France properties with swimming pools:
Advantages
•    The presence of a swimming pool will increase the value of the home, meaning that you could potentially make more of a return on your investment.
•    If you have children, a swimming pool is a great source of free entertainment and recreation for them.
•    When your friends come to visit you at your holiday home, you will be able to enjoy the pool together.
•    Swimming daily will keep you fit and healthy.
•    In the hot summers in Southern France, a swimming pool is a great way to keep cool.
•    If you will be renting out your property, having a pool will be a big attraction for tourists and will allow you to rent it out for a higher price.

Disadvantages
•    A swimming pool requires maintenance such as cleaning, chemicals, and repair. This will cost you time and money.
•    If you leave your holiday home vacant for a large part of the year, your swimming pool needs to be covered or it will be filled with leaves and other debris.
•    A swimming pool can be a safety hazard for young children who cannot swim.
•    France properties with a pool will be much more expensive than ones without, and if you only use the holiday home for a small part of the year the extra investment might not be worth it for you.

Whether or not you want to invest in a property with a swimming pool is up to you, depending on your intentions for your holiday property and your personal preferences. If you do choose a property with a pool, make sure that it is in good condition, has been properly maintained, and meets all safety standards.
